Care Instructions

To ensure that you have as many adventures as possible with your Fitz & Huxley, you can extend the life of your backpack by taking regular care of it. Here are some simple, practical tips.

Leather / Canvas products

Cleaning process

From time to time, you should wipe the canvas of your bag with a damp cloth to prevent dirt from settling in the fabric. The leather can be cleaned every now and then by using a soft brush or a soft, slightly damp cloth and cold water. Please do not use hot water as it can destroy the wax coating of the canvas. You cannot wash your bag in the washing machine.

  1. Brush off dry dirt
  2. Use a brush and cold water for cleaning the deeper layers

Waxing Process

By applying wax, your Fitz & Huxley is impregnated. Durability and lifetime are thereby extended. Depending on the intensity of use, wax your backpack every 6-12 months to refresh the wax layer of the canvas. Regular impregnation maintains and improves the rain resistance of the canvas.

  1. Pre-heat the canvas of your backpack
  2. Apply the wax evenly
  3. Melt the wax with a blow-dryer
  4. Rub in excess wax with a cloth & blowdry again if necessary
  5. Leave to dry for 24h

What do I do when my bag gets wet?

Simply wipe the raindrops from your backpack with a soft cloth and put it in a warm room. Please never put the bag on a heater to dry as this can cause the leather to become brittle.

Make your bag last longer

Leather lotions for open-pored natural leather can be used to care for the bag. However, only use these after having used your bag for a while when the leather got a lighter colour due to the loss of nutrients.

Problems with your buckle or your cord? Just replace it, so you can keep using your Fitz & Huxley!

You can find our exchangeable cords and buckles here.

How can I remove creases?

If creases or pressure marks have formed on the canvas, you can simply iron them out. Important: place a piece of paper or cloth between the iron and the bag to protect the waxed canvas. Set your iron to a medium heat setting and moisten the canvas before ironing.

Can I leave my bag in the sun?

It´s better not to expose your bag to extreme sources of light (like direct sunlight) or heat, as it might make the colour of the bag fade.

Beautiful, functional, sustainable and easy to care for!

For our OCEAN line we use durable, robust recycled polyester, which is made from more than 90% recycled ocean bound plastic. This material is easy to care for or does not require any special care, such as leather or canvas products do.

You can simply brush off dust or other dry dirt with a soft brush. For heavier soiling, you can also machine wash your backpack or hip bag at 30°. It is best to remove the laptop sleeve beforehand and do not wash it.
